Letter for High School Seniors

Dear Senior:

Congratulations on your educational success that has brought you to your senior year of high school. This year is the exciting beginning of a life of even more opportunity. Whether you are heading off to college or starting your career, I want to make sure that you have every opportunity to achieve the American dream here in Florida.

Having grown up in a family that struggled to make ends meet, I know the importance of each and every family having an opportunity to get a great job, and that starts with a great education. We have made Florida’s colleges and universities more affordable, so you have every opportunity to succeed. We are working to keep college affordable, and we eliminated the sales tax on college textbooks for a year. Nearly all of our state colleges now offer incredibly affordable bachelor’s degrees that cost only $10,000 in total.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to learn more about admissions to our state universities at flbog.edu/forstudents/ati/ugradadmissions.php and our state colleges at floridacollegesystem.com/students/admissions.aspx. Additionally, Florida businesses have created more than 941,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010, ensuring every Floridian has the opportunity to get a great job. I encourage you to visit hirefloridagrads.com to see all of the great job opportunities that are available to you.

It is my hope that as you complete your senior year, you will put your talents and skills to work right here in the Sunshine State. I believe as we make Florida colleges and universities more affordable, and as we continue to help businesses create jobs, we will help future generations of Floridians have even more opportunities in our state.

Again, congratulations on all of your success. As you pursue your dreams, I wish you all the best for a great future.

Rick Scott
