Hospitality and Tourism

The Cape Coral High School Institute of Hospitality and Tourism provides students with the knowledge and skills required for a successful career in what many consider to be the world’s largest service industry. The curriculum offers an in-depth look at all aspects of travel, tourism, and hospitality, including geography, economics, and computer systems applications. Event planning and sports entertainment are also a part of this program.

A member program of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), a Hospitality and Tourism program is located in more than 159 high schools nationwide. Additional information about NAF is found at www.naf.org.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that U.S. employment in tourism and hospitality will rise through 2014. As perhaps the world’s largest industry, hospitality and tourism is vastly varied, offering a meaningful application for almost every skill set and interest area, including computers and marketing. And as a career path, hospitality and tourism also offers a better chance of becoming an owner/manager.

Tourism will remain one of the driving forces in the Florida economy. Many of the top 100 jobs in Florida are directly related to tourism. Employers will give precedence to applicants with skills, experience, and background. This program integrates academics with hands-on, project-based learning. Students have the opportunity to experience the professional working environment through career shadowing and internships.

Through their Institute of Hospitality and Tourism experience, students gain an understanding of the connections that exist between their education and the workplace. Students are provided with the curriculum and guidance necessary for rewarding careers.

Knowledgeable guest speakers will allow students to discover how their studies relate to the work they will perform on the job. The Cape High Hospitality and Tourism program offers an exciting opportunity for students to become world-class players in this dynamic business arena through an in-depth look at all aspects of travel and tourism.

Upon successful completion of the Hospitality and Tourism program, students may qualify for Florida’s Gold Seal Vocational Scholars scholarship award, as well as several additional scholarships sponsored by the National Academy Foundation.
